URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS
It is defined as infections in the urinary tract system that includes
Kidneys (pyelonephritis), Bladder (Cystitis), Prostatitis in males, and Urethra (urethritis)
Preventions of urinary tract infections are the primary goal of management. Prevention is a resource free with minimal resource interventions.
By following these simple steps we can prevent urinary tract infections;
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Education of girls to wipe front to back when toilet training.
- Urination after every sexual activity
- Keep the genital area dry and clean
- Change nappies or pads if they’re soiled
- Take showers instead of bath tabs
- Minimize sprays, and powders in the genital areas
- Reduce intake of sugary foods as they enhance bacterial growth.
- Avoid wet and tight synthetic underwear.
- Avoid a lot of alcoholic drinks that can irritate the bladder
- Encourage the use of the non-spermicide type of contraception.
- Empty the bladder fully without holding urine
