Certain habits and situations can significantly increase your risk of developing tooth decay. These factors include eating a diet high in sugar or carbohydrates, having a weakened immune system, suffering from dry mouth and not regularly visiting a dentist.

Once you develop tooth decay, it is impossible to reverse the damage. However, early detection of decay through regular dental checkups can prevent extensive damage to your teeth. Your dentist can treat early stages of tooth decay by applying fluoride directly in a topical application or supplying fluoride through the water supply in a process called fluoridation. While there are no scientific studies proving that natural remedies can reverse or prevent tooth decay, there are many people who swear by natural methods. Some common natural remedies include oil pulling with coconut oil, brushing with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, consuming licorice root, and chewing sugar-free gum with xylitol.

The best way to treat and manage tooth decay is through proper oral hygiene and regular visits to your dentist. Brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and using an antiseptic mouthwash can help prevent tooth decay. Additionally, a healthy diet and avoiding sugary snacks can also prevent tooth decay.
